Pressure Cooker

The Dawn of Further Studies

Time passes and people age,
Eons rage past and yet the world still stands,
We are like birds released from our little cages,
Flying confused throughout the free lands.

A new day is a new life,
Different smiles and different laughs,
Different shapes and different sizes,
Where new faces are rife.

Begone the past,
Welcome the present,
Friends are a must,
But choose wisely to have your time well spent.

Schooling is no longer a must,
Our thirst for knowledge will never be satiated,
As our brains start to rust,
Our knowledge would be affected.

First day of school,
Trying not to look gay,
Whilst trying to look cool,
Struggling to join the clichés.

Being shy to new things is human nature,
But being a bully towards newcomers isn’t;
To avoid unwanted attention and to rest assured,
Is to hide your existence.

Confusion,
Anxiety,
Problems,
Reality.

Their presence makes you feel secure,
But their taunts and words make you insecure,
Helplessness overwhelms you,
And there’s nothing you could do.

All alone,
Self directed anger,
Violence,
Danger.

Suicidal thoughts flit through your head,
Depression you succumb to,
Embracing death to be with the dead,
Imagining of having an alter-ego.

Goodbye Mama,
I love you so much,
Goodbye Papa,
I’ll see you again.

Reaching out for a new life,
Taking the first step into afterlife,
Over the balcony she goes,
She falls.

Peer pressure is a very scary thing that is happening around us, especially
amongst students in new places, be it starting anew, or studying abroad; it happens.
Most students would then succumb to it and enter a state of depression which causes
turmoil in their life, practically tearing their life apart. Some of them who are
particularly weak at solving problems and overcoming obstacles in life might opt for
suicide in thinking that suicide will solve all their problems.

I hope that there would be aid to those with social phobias so that the students have
a chance at their studies and in life.
